Where did THAT come from? But I love this movie, and Officer Miglioritti is a total teddy bear of a man. I want to wrap my arms around him and just hug and kiss him all day long.

You could tell he had to sell a set amount of tickets by the embarrassed way he hating asking an early teenager for money (the kicker being she doesn’t eat turkey). Officer Ron was a great guy, though. You’ll notice how he kept a sharp, steady eye on Frank Hallett as he was inviting Rynn for a ride home in his patrol car.
One other bit I caught today was the cash Rynn got back from the senior teller. It looked like they quickly grabbed some prop money and dumped it on the counter. I worked at bank, years ago, we the bills were always returned neatly and in order. I’ll never bag on this movie, though, it’s one of my all time favorites.

"Yeah, I'm glad, too, but, ummm... Do you like turkey?"is not a non sequiter. It is an abrupt change in the topic of the conversation. I also liked the film.

Wonder if there was ever such an age where a super nice officer not only gives your kid a lift, but really cares for them, with several visits, instructions regarding a child molester who goes unpunished because his mother is the local busybody. Plus manages you somehow win the turkey. This could only happen in Wells Harbour, Maine, 1974.
I was a kid at the same time as Rynn was and it wasn't unheard of for a local cop to become mentors and "friends" to the early teens of their town. They just kept an eye on you if you were wandering around and it seemed like Officer Ron saw Rynn as a pleasant enough diversion from the normal cold adults of Wells Harbor.
I can see him drawn back to the Jacobs' house with almost nagging need to finally meet her father. Just add it to his route and bang - new excuse to check up on her. The lack of any kind of automobile may have been a clue, but whatever. Maybe she had one of those page a day calendars for excuses to say why pops was out.
