Just been on ITV, never watched the series - I was born in 1985 so it's a bit before my time - but the film was hilarious!
So many little bits that had me in stitches - no special effects & low budget - which makes this film even better - one of the funniest films I've ever seen.
Used to watch the series (although I'm also too young - born in '81) but never seen the film. Just watched it on telly too and really liked the pathos it had. Plenty of heart, but also funny to boot.
Not sure about "funniest films ever", but certainly a lot better than I could have expected from a TV to film adaptation...
