Thoughts?

An early Kiarostami picture that effectively showcased all of his directorial skills. I quite liked it. Perhaps it lacked the thematic complexity, emotional resonance and visual splendor of his later flicks (most of which I have still to see, so this could possibly be construed as "premature" by the cynical) and perhaps it was possibly a bit "too" neat in the way it attempted to explain why that kid was such an insufferable, irritating mooch. But, all the same, there was some interesting mixture of beauty and tragedy in this simple story, aided in large part by Kiarostami's direction. I especially loved those final few moments when the kids' mischievous scheming is about to fall apart in spectacular fashion and be revealed to the tailor. Usually, such string of timely coincidences don't sit well with me but it's just really executed well here.
