They didn't have to kill Mike, he was really trying to help Barbara Hershey's character and i don't think they should have killed him. I know he was a convict and all but they should have captured him. I didn't like the ending anyway
i know the character of mike had susans best interest at heart...there was one scene of graphic violence which should have been cut...i have a copy of charlton hestons-the actors life--journal 1956-1976....he says in this book an invited audience came to view the film...it recieved a muted responce....no prizes for guessing which scene disturbed the audience.....i thought james coburn was outstanding in the film...maybe one day there will a remake of this film .
A remake?? what the hell for? sure, it's not PC....but that's what makes it so *beep* great! Theres not one single director out there that could make a western like this anymore anyway.
I don't think most people regard "The Last Hard Men" as a classic, I think it is though. It was a flop back in the day anyway so I don't think the studios are gonna mess with it.
Did you like the new version of "3:10 To Yuma"?? I liked Peter Fonda's part, but I can't say I was impressed with the rest. Bale is a good actor, I have to give him that though.
because the last hard men was not a sucess at the time of release , it has become a much sought over dvd...it is only in the last year that a official release on region 2 on the spannish dvd.....o.k back in 1976 i saw this at the nottingham odeon....when it came to the rape scene people began to walk out so word of mouth got round & people stayed away....in those days it was strong for that time.....to me it is one of james coburns best performances .i still think in time someone will have a shot of remaking it.....3-10 to yuma i liked bales performance
mike deserved to die because he did not save susan from that hell!
Yes they did. He needed to die as badly as the rest of the pigs. He rode with them. He associated with them. He was as guilty of raping and terrorizing her as everyone else. When you ride with a pack, you're guilty of everything that anyone in that pack does. He should have saddled up (as they put it) and gotten some of it when he could, because he's going to pay for it later on whether he does or not. On top of all that, he drew down on Susan's boyfriend, what's HE going to do, stand there and get shot? He was given a choice in the beginning, and his answer was "well, you don't have to ask me!" There's no quarter give for savages. Ever.
