is this film too violent for a dvd release?

for the best part of a year without any sucess i have been trying to get a reply from 20th century fox about THE LAST HARD MEN being released on dvd.so with films such as STRAW DOGS put on dvd it is high time they put this western out...i know back in 1976 when the film was released it was deemed too violent....i think it is a crying shame that one of james coburns greatest performances has been swept under the carpet by 20th century fox...i would love a reply from anyone to do with 20th century fox.

reply

It is PG violence even by that day's standards, which had seen incredibly violent flicks like THE WILD BUNCH and SOLDIER BLUE and many Clint Eastwood westerns.

reply

THE WILD BUNCH & SOLDIER BLUE are out on dvd...i think if the rape scene had been cut (which in slow motion took you into STRAW DOGS mode) it could of been out on dvd ....when in 1976 when i seen the movie at the odeon ...that scene caused people to walk out..even after all this time 20th century fox will not release it onto dvd..a shame because...James Coburn is absolutely superb in the film

reply

Too violent for DVD release? Like violence has anything to do with what gets released on DVD?

No one from 20th can read, so I wouldn't expect much.

reply

or don t want to give the public the films they want to see on dvd...too much hard work for 20th

reply

Yeah, I agree with you harry mag, also add $$$$$$. If 20th suspect it won't sell they won't release. I know of at least 2 buyers out there...

reply

It was deemed "too violent" for what?

reply

Back in 1976 when first viewed the rape scene was thought to be too strong at this time by many critics....the film suffered & 20th century fox swept the film under the carpet...to me it is one of James Coburn finest performances...the film is now available in Spain on dvd on region 2

reply

Man... I want to see this movie so *beep* bad!!!

reply

Fast forward to 2012 and The Last Hard Men is issued on DVD by Shout Factory. The disc also includes James Coburn in Sky Riders. Both movies in anamorphic 2:35. Cheers!

Well, it's just been released on DVD by those fine folks at Shout! Factory, so I guess not.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

reply

I asked the question .....i did not tell people not to buy or view it & the post was from 2006 before being released by Shout on DVD

reply

Have you seen the movie on DVD yet? How is it? Too many good exploitation films from the past aren't remastered well. I've been disappointed too many times. Please tell me if this DVD is good.

Seems to me the delay in releasing it (it's out now) was just because it isn't that good.

reply

No of course not, I don't think any movie is.
