King of New York (spoilers)

The ending of King of New York (1990) is similar to The Killing of a Chinese Bookie in that the protagonist silently carries on with a bullet in his gut until, in the case of King, he dies, whereas in Chinese Bookie it's only hinted at. I don't know whether this is intentional or merely coincidence, but it's certainly worth noting.

Ferrara is a huge fan of this film and Cassavetes in general so it's certainly possible that it was an intentional reference, if only unconsciously. He later made New Rose Hotel, which has a shady strip-club that's rather reminiscent of the Crazy Horse West. Plus Go-Go Tales in 2007 was pretty much a self-admitted "remake" of Bookie. Check them out, all great films.
