From the commentary it's mentioned that it was filmed in Long Beach,CA. in the very neighbourhood of director Don Coscarelli's parents.

To be exact It was Signal Hill and Bixby Knolls in Long Beach

Definitely Long Beach, Calif. In 1977 I was a student at Cal State Univer-
sity, Long Beach. I took a class called "Theatrical Film Symposium" taught
by Gary Prebula who invited Don Coscarelli to our class. He did come and
he brought with him "Kenny and Company" which I enjoyed. I remember him
telling us that Twentieth Century Fox was trying to market it as a skate-
board movie (which it was not) and that his next film was going to be called
"Phantasm" (he was mum about the plot). I also got to see Ron Howard in person
who brought "Grand Theft Auto" with him. Unfortunately, we were never able
to have that private screening of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
at Steven Spielberg's house that our professor kept trying to arrange all
semester but I'm still glad I took the course.

It was filmed in the director's home town of Long Beach, CA. Due to the low budget, they used a lot of local kids as extras in many of the scenes. I was in it because they used my flag football team. I was only 10 years old at the time. Along with the Bad News Bears, movies with this style and simple approach are not made anymore. Kids today don't have an attention span that would even compliment this unique piece of cinema.

You were in it? That's cool. This is a great movie and time era...I grew up in the 80's but this still reminds me of when I was a kid. The cars, clothes, neighborhoods. I can watch this movie anytime and enjoy it. Kids actually went outside and played back in the day lol.

I watched this movie for the first time and I loved the slow, simple style and thought the movie was fantastic.
