I LOVED this movie when I was a girl ... It seems MANY people in my generation (the latter part of GenX - I am 32) grew up with that movie and have deep rooted memories of it (I really thought I was the only one!)
I just rented this DVD from Blockbuster - haven't seen it since the mid 80's. I AM SO HAPPY! ("Are you Hap - py" LOL!!!)

It's true though, everyone thinks they're the only one who grew up with it. It freaked me out, but I loved it. I had an old copy on VHS that I watched about 6 years ago, and man, that was creepy stuff. And then my tape died. But I'll have it on DVD soon! WOOOOO!!!
It's available for RENT? Holy cheese, Batman I had no idea! Exactly WHEN was this released on DVD. I bought a CD from Wall Of Voodoo entitled Dark Continent and it didn't get released on CD until 1992 but the album came out in 1980.
I am surprised that Disney or Dreamworks has not bought the rights to this and remade it (using the same audio track) with 3D animation. This movie is comparable to modern Disney animated movies as far as quality of animation AND philisophical messages.
That's so funny, because I was watching something that triggered my vague memory of this movie, (the "Are You Happy" song in particular) which I hadn't seen since I was seven or so, which was in 1987. I was so positive that I would have no luck finding it here, and I was so shocked to see that so many people have seen and loved this movie the way that I did!!! I can't wait to buy this movie and analyze it again as an adult...I remember it having some really dark themes, which might mean more to me now that I'm older. I can't wait to check and see if they actually have it at Blockbuster!!!
