Hecuba?

How does she end up being a toy at the end? I still don't get it!

Neither do I. I've seen the movie for about 25 years and I never understood that either. It was overall a pretty weird movie when you think about it. I was able to buy one of the rare VHS copies on eBay and watched it again last night with my fiancee. She doesn't understand that part either.

I just got done watching it, and I think it's more of a symbolic gesture. Fairy Tale magic has always had a balancing effect by the end of the tale; and just as the crumbled walls (which Hecuba never had a direct hand in) being repaired are symbolic of healed wounds, I think Hecuba ending up as a smashed toy is symbolic of a harmlessness. Just a thought.

Maybe it's symbolic-she was "toying" with Tulip.

I have never understood this for the past 22-23 years I have been watching this cartoon!

My only explanation was that he didn't really kill the Witch at the end, rather she replaced her body with that off the toy (remember Tulip has a singing toy of the witch) just before he trampled her. Note Tulip's reaction when he moves his foot and realises he's only smashed the toy.

Of coure, this doesn't explain why the spell is then broken...

When Hecuba dies the balcony room where Margaret lives disappears. I can't figure out why!

reply

She was actually a cyborg made by Cyberdyne Systems.
