pink floyd????

I absolutely am in love with the fact that so many people are in the exact position i am with this movie. my mom taped it off of hbo for me about 14 years ago, and i watched it religiously until my little sister apprently destroyed the tape. just to make sure this is the correct version, and i dont no if anyone could help me on this, but every time i hear certain pink floyd songs it reminds me of the jack and the beanstalk i watched as a kid. the sort of eerie and creepy feel of their songs somehow hit me exactly like some of the songs from the version of jack and the beanstalk. just wondering if ANYONE could help me in the slightest on this.

itd be incredibly appreciated.

I can't really help you but i know exactly what you mean!

I saw this movie on HBO in a hotel in a small beach town in New Jersey when I was three or four. The main thing that I remember is that once they got above the clouds the movie became dark and a little bit scary!

You should hit your sister for destroying the tape, she sounds like a quail.

Let's you and me be friends

"jack like jumping around and singing at the end when he's fighting the giant?"
Well it really sounds like this movie.

I've always thought the music sounded like Pink Floyd. Especially the score. Not so much the songs, but the music when Jack climbs the beanstalk and when the princess gets her "treatment."

reply

For the longest time I believed the music was pink floyd, but alas, it was not. But certainly, when Jack climbs the beanstalk with crosby and the mouse, a feeling of floyd is in the air.

I've seen this version of Jack & the Beanstalk on HBO as a kid. It's been 15 years ago - I can relate to the dark, eerie feeling that the cartoon gave me. But the music in relation to Pink Floyd? Nope. Maybe if I can find a DVD copy of the movie and see it again...I vaguely remember the music. The only two songs that I can remember is when the princess sings "There's No One Happier Than I" and the song when Jack comes home to his mother from a beanstalk visit with gold coins and jewels. Then again, I didn't get into Floyd until I was a sophomore in high school.

Go on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jack-Beanstalk-REGION-1-NTSC/dp/B0007YMV6U/ref=sr_1_2/203-8958430-9899121?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1189441182&sr=1-2
It is only available as a reigon 1 dvd though, so if that's not where you are, you'd need a reigon free dvd player.

I get the same feeling, especially with "Dark Side of the Moon". There's a psychedelic quality, a bewilderment at the perverse strangeness of the world, a high sense of keening sadness. At least, that's what I get off it. Does anyone know who did do the music?

reply

that's what I want to know too. I love the trippy guitar stuff, especially when they're climbing the beanstalk...and the funky little bass n drums when they're sneaking through the castle. The music is awesome, even Jack's songs aren't completely terrible. The songs I'd really like to know who performs them are the wedding song "Are you Happy?" And a song toward the beginning when Jack is walking with the cow... it's not one of the most memorable numbers but I've always liked it, the tune and the words stick with me:

Who'd want an elephant without a trunk?
Don't imagine you would.
With no tail to swing, then who'd want a monkey?
Not a single zoo would.
An ostrich with no plume or feather
When she should have many,
Or a cow that gave no milk or butter,
Barely worth a penny.

This is a law that seems to rule us all
Don't you try to break it
Though you may think you're riding handsome and tall
You're due for a fall.

Rules are often bad
And this rule is one
Though it makes us mad
That's the way it's done.

I TOTALLY know what you mean. The songs in this movie I've often compared to Pink Floyd songs...it's bizarre.

reply

personally, when i hear the song 'time' by pink floyd it absolutely reminds me of that movie. My mom, as well as it seems everyone elses, recorded it from hbo years ago, but later destroyed it for me not going to bed when she said so =(

reply

OK, I've seen the movie again, and I think I understand now what you're talking about. At first I didn't agree with you about the Pink Floyd factor in the music in this movie, but then again, I hadn't watched it in over 16 years.

There's a scene in the movie after the beanstalk has grown to its full height and Jack, the little mouse and Crosby the dog are all climbing the beanstalk. There's a song playing during that scene that sounds something like "Echoes" from Pink Floyd's Meddle album. And the wedding scene sorta reminds me of "The Trial" scene and song in "The Wall".

I don't know, I was really drunk at the time...

To the OP, you can find this at Amazon and it's only about $15.99 or
something in that ball park.

Pink Floyd really didn't have anything to do with the film but it was
made around the same time period (in the early mid 70's) when everyone
on the planet was rockin' out to them so I'm sure their music somewhat
influenced the filmmakers.
