It was back in 85 when my parents rented it for me on video, it was one of my first anime movies besides Unico 1 & 2, Warriors of the Wind (Nausicaa) and more.

Yes but I saw this in the theaters and couldn't remember the name to save my life. I remembered how mature the story was for kids and the music.
After that it was Speed Racer, G-Force and Star Blazers. The next anime for me was Warriors of the Wind when it was on the early forms of cable tv.
I saw it when I was 11 and it would be several years before I would even hear of animé, although back then it was called Japanimation. It's still to this day the only animè that I like.
