Dolemite's standup routine

I have to admit I don't know much about Rudy Ray Moore. I understand that he was one of the first comedians to do raunchy standup routines, but I found the one in the film to be one of the least inspired, poorly written, and unfunny routines I've heard from a famous comedian. The Vietnam vet joke was okay, but the rest were real groaners. Shocking and groundbreaking for the time, yes, but funny? Is this representative of a typical Moore routine?

Thing is, Rudy Ray Moore's standup show is more than just straight up joke telling. Most of his set is comprised of long rhyming practically rap routines set to music called toasts. This is where the character Dolemite came from, as well as Petey Wheatstraw and various other characters. These are old stories steeped in Black American folklore and originated centuries ago. The stories are tweaked and changed from time to time, its definitely a lost art and a precursor to hip hop.
