Different Cut on DVD?
Anyone know the story with the what version has been available on DVD? I had heard it was recut and scenes were re-ordered from the original release back in the 70s. Anyone know?

shareFrom what I understand they cut out some gay-jokes and things of that nature for the politically-current 20-first century audience. You know, 'cause they're just the type to watch a Rudy Ray Moore movie...what a crock of *beep*
shareI'm a huge Rudy Ray Moore fan and The Human Tornado is one of my favorites from his series of films.
As far as I know there are THREE different cuts of The Human Tornado.
First- The one I initially saw on video tape back in the day had Dolemite's standup routine in the very beginning then the opening credits follow it. Afterwhich the film plays out correctly.
Second- Xenon acquired the rights to the film and for some odd reason in this edit, the film opens with the hick Jethro Goodlow and his mother witnessing the party at Dolemite's house then reporting it to the sheriff, after this the opening credits roll then they're followed by the sequence where Dolemite does his standup leading into the seige at Queen Bee's club from Cavelletti's men. This cut omits how Dolemite and his crew get to California from the south thereby leaving out the hitchhiking with the gay dude. This is probably the worst edit of the film with the most confusing sequence of events. It makes the movie almost unintelligable. This version was the one available from Xenon for YEARS!
Third- The Dolemite Collection Edit is what I call this one and is what I figure the correct edit of the film respectively. This version starts with the opening credits, then Dolemite's standup routine and after that the film plays out in its correct sequence of events.
"You win some, you lose some. But you live, you live to fight another day."
Delayed response, but thanks for that breakdown! I did pick up the Dolemite Collection version really cheap, so it will have to make do. I ain't lyin'!
shareYeah, I just got the DVD from the library and because I wanted to see the edits for myself and to my surprise all the material (including the un-PC gay-humor) was intact. So it looks like they fixed their mistake. No longer am I filled with murderous rage.
Any thoughts on the upcoming blu Ray release from Vinegar Syndrome? Tough to find details on what form the print is they are putting out. Anyone know?
shareVinegar Syndrome will most likely release it uncut.
shareThe VS release is the uncut, correctly ordered version. Just watched it the other day.
