Yodeling

Does anybody know the name of the yodeling song in the beginning?

reply

As far as I remember I asked somebody at Herzog Official Site for the same information. They told me it was sung by Popol Vuh but I know this band quite well and it is not theirs. Still searching.

thanks

it could be them, just not published separately. Maybe Herzog had them make it specifically for the movie, but it was never released elsewhere.

If you go to this link on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-e8xVfcSng&feature=related , you can listen to the yodeling! I know it sucks you can't download it or anything, but beggars can't be choosers.

I do not know who performed the opening yodel, but here it is:http://tinyurl.com/3gkmkb9If anyone loves that, then I suggest obtaining a bloody brilliant Swiss yodeling CD compiled by Ocora records entitled Suisse. Paysages Musicaux Par Des Musiciens Traditionnels [Ocora].I have had it in my possession for years and never tire of it.

I don't know whether such polyphonic singing had its origins in Baravia, but to the best of my knowledge it sprung from the land of Appenzell in Switzerland. There, it is not referred to as Yodel -- which is misleading, since it applies to a broad body of song -- but rather as "Zäuerli".

reply

"Zäuerli mit Talerschwingen" is the name of the song. There are many excellent recordings of it on YouTube...

WOW. fab, I my mind can now rest.

Only those with no valid argument pick holes in people's spelling and grammar.
