It is a crime this film is not available!

I saw this film in a movie theater in Manhattan in 1981 (I think it was around May) when it was first released in the United States. It completely blew me away! I did not see the ending coming, and I was completely shocked. I noticed there were two VHS versions available (both under the title THE HAUNTING OF JULIA). Both were pan and scan versions. One had the ending in wide-screen, the other in full-screen. The only other difference I noticed is in a phone call between Julia and Lilly. In one version, when Lilly hangs up the phone, the camera tilts up to her face and the scene cuts. In the other version, the camera tilts up to her face, but then pans across the room to reveal Magnus sitting there!

Why is this film NOT on DVD? Like THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE (filmed around the same time, and with a common producer Alfred Pariser), this film's "cult" following has grown and grown over the years!

I totally agree. This should be on DVD ASAP! Did you also notice that the Magnum VHS has scenes cut and missing? The part where Julia sees Ms. Pinner going on the bus is gone, it doesn't show her walk into the museum, and some dialogue has been chopped.

Hey,if you're a fan of this film like me,you can write a little message on the "Movie wish list" of the anchorbay.co.uk forum...here's the link:

Anchor bay uk has released another Richard Loncraine movie ("Bellman and true") so maybe there's a hope that they release "Full Circle" someday...or another dvd company like Blue Underground.

I'd love a special edition of this film on dvd, with Richard Loncraine and Mia Farrow audio commentary,a making of,a nice looking print in 2:35 Cinemascope and the little deleted scenes (i own a "Films Illustrated" magazine from August 1977 and it says that Loncraine after the first worldwide screening in Cannes 1977 cut or edited two or three little bits of scenes: the Mia Farrow/Tom Conti bedroom scene, the Keir Dullea scene in the basement and the death of Olivia's mother)

Spread the word of mouth if you want to see this great film available on a decent dvd!!!

I rented Hauting of Julia once on VHS. Perhaps 8-9 years ago. Haven't seen it available. I have the other one, but I think it was a ex. rental VHS.

Yes, I agree. It's a shame. Wonderful movie, the first. Did not know there were a connection between the two.
