As much as I love Cannonball Run, it pales in every way when put up against Gumball Rally. For one thing, Gumball has real driving, real sounds, & no sped up film. The characters are real in Gumball, while the Cannonball guys come off as cartoon characters. Both films are hilarious & Cannonball was one of the first movies to show bloopers.

could not agree more!!!! good job. One additional thing to me was NO 'BIG" names to mug-it-up and therefore ruin the show.

Infact, any film ever made that doesn't have a Cobra sucks. Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, Aliens, Blade Runner, Goodfellas, Empire Strikes Back and Friday the 13th Part III all suffer due to their lack of Cobras.
The only film which can get away with this is Vanishing Point. Killing a Cobra at the end would just be a sick, evil thing to do.

Since 2005 when original question was asked, Brock Yates has written a history of the actual Cannonball Rallies and he even pans the Cannonball Rally movie as degenerating into a Burt Reynold's and Friends stupid fest.
About the only real thing is that the MedVac Ambulance in the movie was the real one that Yates used for one of the Cannonball races and then later donated to some town in Georgia to actually use as an ambulance...

Thats the truth-Cannonball Run was an inside/private joke for Burt and his pals.Gumball was funny,fast paced,nostalgic and real!It had a good mix of people and cars for a much lower budget.Cannonball was good for laughs,i will admit but truly NOT a real "Car-guy"movie like Gumball Rally.DO NOT REMAKE!!!
shareI like Cannonball Run. I really like 70's era Burt and enjoy most everything he did. He just looked like a guy having fun, and I dig that. And I always love Jack Elam in most anything.
However, Gumball Rally is a better movie. Everything about GR is superior to CBR. The only thing CBR has going for it is Burt and crew having fun and letting us in on the joke.
