Andrew Prine's character part Indian?

Andrew Prine's character Don gave a speech about bears attacking an Indian tribe a long time ago. Another character said something about the tale being hard to believe, then Prine answered "Unless you happen to be one of those Indians." Was Prine's character hinting that he was a member of that Indian tribe?

I actually met Mr Prine last week at a National Park in Utah and asked him that very same question. He smirked at me and said “oh, one of the five people who actually saw the movie and still alive to tell about it”
