Gator....(Spoilers)

Wow.. here goes my views on this movie.. WARNING LONG POST (spoilers too)!

Well let me start off by saying the opening credits to this movie are one of the best openings to a movie, EVER! The whole scene with the cops lined up against the backdrop of the swamp and Jerry Reed's song "Gator McKlusky" is just GOLD in my eyes. I don't know how many times I've gone on youtube just to watch the credits!

But, moving on past that. I thought that this movie was somewhat cheesy. I definitely did not like the lighter tone of this movie when compared with seriousness of 'White Lightning', which I liked. But, apparently at that time during the 70s everyone wanted to be happy, watch cheesy movies and laugh.. not be serious!

It would have also been nice had this movie picked up where White Lightning left off. To me, this movie seems MUCH too different to be a sequel. I mean, how could this be a sequel for heavens sake... GATOR GOES FROM LIVING IN THE DELTA REGION OF ARKANSAS TO LIVING IN THE OKEFENOKEE SWAMP IN GEORGIA!?!? Not to mention he goes from having two good farming parents to just having one old coot moonshine maker of a father!?!? Hmm, maybe they thought we wouldn't notice?

I thought the lack of car chases took away from this movie, but then again this movie wasn't about running moonshine...which would have to have a certain amount of car chases, LOL. It was about shutting a ruthless "mob-boss" type down. Maybe they should have done more car chases where Gator was being chasing the bodyguard or Bama. Oh well, too late now!

The bodyguard they chose was just completely stupid and in my eyes made this movie into an even more laughable affair. Bama should have had a Conlan Carter type bodyguard with him. Someone who was half-way attractive, then it might have been somewhat enjoyable to watch the bodyguard scenes.

I just couldn't get over how big, fat and sweaty Jack Weston was. Just watching some of his scenes made me feel very uncomfortable.. like I wanted to constantly offer him a cold towel, water or the use of my shower. Did it bother anyone else to watch him take his hands and wipe the sweat from his face?? LOL, I know it did me.

I especially thought Jerry Reed was very attractive in this movie, loved his sideburns, his clothes, beautiful blonde always styled hair and his great voice. I thought he was a very believable villain and enjoyed watching the scenes he was in.

I wasn't "feeling" Burt Reynolds so much in this movie. He looks too much like the Bandit in this movie (yes I know the Smokey and The Bandit came out after this movie) and him looking like the Bandit doesn't help me take him very serious. Again, I really liked his super serious attitude and look in White Lightning. Some of his scenes were very funny - the scene where he's drugged comes to mind. But, overall I wouldn't call this one of his most memorable movies, in my eyes.

Lauren Hutton was watchable, although I can't say I'm a big fan her look or her buck teeth. I kept thinking "orthodontist, orthodontist" every time she smiled or talked.

Alice Ghostley was so damned annoying! They should have just given her role to one of the cats she fussed over so much and it would have been a more interesting movie and made her scenes that much more tolerable. It's just too bad she wasn't killed off sooner.

I also want to note that I HATED the man they chose to play Mayor Caffrey. Seriously, you think they could have chosen someone a little more attractive that had a shred of acting skills to play him. I think the only thing that carried that man through his scenes was his ability to laugh (and that's not something I'd brag or write home about).

There's nothing that a little less attitude wouldn't cure! *slap*

Another thing White Lightning has going for it that the movie Gator does not: "Shakey Puddin'!"
