Woody's Last Line

I rewatched this film last night for the first time in many years. I had forgotten Woody's last line of *beep* You". TCM allowed this line to go unedited. To me it compares to the last line of Gone With The Wind. They allowed Rhett Butler's "damn" because it was a profound sentiment after all his dealings with Scarlett. I think the TV networks allowed Woody's F bomb for the same reason.

The FCC mandates what can be shown over the regular airwaves (the networks) with regards to decency. TCM isn't one of the networks since it is a cable channel. Cable channels don't show nudity or allow profanity (usually) because it would upset the advertisers. TCM doesn't derive its income from advertising, therefore it isn't held accountable to them or anyone else with regard to indecent material. TCM shows all of its films uncut, unedited, and with any nudity or profanity intact. Having said that, TCM doesn't usually air films with any nudity or profanity simply because those aren't the types of films they show. But if one of these films just happens to have something in it, it will not be edited, bleeped, blurred, or removed.
