Best non-Woody Allen Woody Allen movie.

I think this film along with 'Antz' are the best movies he acted it which he neither wrote/directed. What do you guys think?

reply

Yeah, this is his best acting-only role. Antz was pretty funny and so was Scenes from the Mall, but The Front definitely tops both of those. He also acted in a movie called Picking Up the Pieces, where he plays a guy who murders his wife. I haven't seen it yet though.

"Scenes From a Mall" was good, and "Antz" was excellent, though of course it's only his voice. I have "Picking Up the Pieces," but I haven't gotten around to watching it because I've heard it's quite bad. I agree that "The Front" is by far his best acting role where he didn't direct.

I agree and think this film proves that Woody is wrong when he says that he is not a good actor.

Woody, of course, is just being modest when he says he's not a good actor -- and this film proves it. What a great mix of comedy and pathos!

I thought his acting was excellent in this. Better than in his own movies; more subtle.

He does pretty good, even though his screen persona isn´t that much removed from his usual schtick in front of the camera. I´m quite sure he´s the creative force behind at least some of his oneliners though.
