the light humor of rape
I realize that comic westerns about bank robbers make light of dozens of deaths but in this movie, Charles Bronson's character also raped Jill Ireland's character, who enjoyed his lovemaking so much that she fell in love with him. Yet this is a sweet comedy???
As for that love, why did all the townspeople immediately hate Ireland's character? Did they psychically divine that Ireland had fallen in love with Bronson, before she told them? Were they told by one of the gang, before they were hung, that Bronson, who'd been left to guard Ireland, was such a good lovemaker that surely Ireland simply must have fallen in love with him? Was a half hour chopped out of the version of film I saw on tv?
