Different Versions

I picked up a copy of this film the other day, after not seeing it since I watched it with my parents on VHS as a little kid. The first thing I noticed was that all of the voices were different from our old VHS copy, Peewit & McCreep's names had been changed (despite the back cover listing them as such) and even the words to his first song were different.

I found this in the FAQs here:

A few years before the US English dub of this film, another English dub was done in the UK. In both dubs, (Sir) Johan was called "(Sir) John" (the Anglicized version of Johan). In the UK dub, Peewit ("Pirlouit" in Belgium; his English name is pronounced "Pee-Wee") was renamed "William," possibly for localization reasons. The villain Torchesac (called Oilycreep" in the translated English version of the comics) is called "Matthew Oily-Creep" in the UK, and "Matthew McCreep" in the US.

From this, I've guessed that I bought a version with the older UK dub. Does anyone know where (or if) I could find a legal copy with the US dub? Its probably just because I grew up with the US version, but this one just doesn't have the same charm to me. Thanks.

Sounds like the version I had was the US version then because the Peewee character's name was not William, and Johan was Johan and not John.

Was that on DVD or VHS?

It was recorded off tv sometime in the 80s. But the US version I'm pretty sure is only available on VHS and probably from someone on eBay.

To further complicate matters, IMDB lists this film as 89 minutes, but many sources also have it listed as 74 minutes.

However, the original US VHS Commercial Release (Vestron Video) from the mid 1980s has a listed running time of 30 minutes on the back, with the actual running time more like 40 minutes. What happened to the other 34-49 minutes?!?!?

Watching it now on VUDU and it's the UK dub. Glad I didn't pay for it. Pee Wee's childlike voice is replaced by someone who sounds like they're in their fifties.
