Blanche isn't a very good passenger....

I want to smack her when she's all over Bruce Dern as he's trying to steer the car!

AND, she isn't wearing her SEATBELT!

Bad, bad passenger.

I dont recall wearing seatbelts back in the 70's. I dont even remember if my dad's car had them!! And I did want to smack her too.

We had seatbelts back in the 70's, we just never used them.

In the 1970s when I was a kid, we rode seatbeltless in the back of the family station wagon. Vehicle safety was much different then...same as we rode bicycles without helmets or knee pads...and survived just fine (discounting some scrapes and bruises). We also touched raw chicken meat and laid out in the sun with baby oil.. it was an innocent time. LOL!
But yes...she was all over him and the steering wheel while he's trying to drive. Panic obviously. Very funny scene (intentionally) IMO.
Please do not attack me for my opinions...we're all entitled to them.

We didn't even have the rubber sissy pads in the playground either. And we were allowed to beat up bullies back then too.

I believe this scene was really played for comedy.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

One of the things I love about FAMILY PLOT is Madame Blanche's white mustang--it looked like a '65 to me. My first car was an aqua '67 Mustang (the tail lights on the '65 were conve; the tail lights on the '67 were concave; and, although it came with seat belts (lap belts only), I don't remember ever wearing them. As someone said, it was a different time (and it wasn't yet a law in my state).
