This definitely influenced "Beetlejuice", "The Thing", "Alien"

The nightmarish claustrophobia, the eerie lighting, the extremely jarring industrial soundscape, the inability to decipher reality from dream state...

This movie takes a page from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven", and rediscovers some of what made that great in its time, but for a post-modern era.

Wow.. I tried watching this as a 19 year old but couldn't handle it.. 10 years later.. brilliant!

This film seems extremely influential/ahead-of-its-time; definitely a touchstone in the history of horror and film.

I have been enjoying (most) everyone's interpretation of it -- bravo y'all.

Yeah, the stop motion scene with the worm reminds me of Tim Burton.

Interesting that you mentioned Alien. Lynch accused them of ripping off his deformed baby creature with the chestburster.
