Joanna shooting at Pamela

The behavior exhibited by Joanna when she's trying to stop Pamela from escaping is atrociously stupid.

1. She doesn't know where her own car keys are. Her excuse for when she goes to get the gun is that she needs to get the keys. But she should know they're hanging up by the door. Pamela realizes the ruse when she notices them. Something more vague like "Wait just a second!" would've sufficed.

2. As Pamela opens the door, Joanna hesitates before firing. When she does, her aim is way off. She hits the door frame instead of Pamela. While the bad aim I can understand, I don't understand why Joanna waited to fire. She should've started unloading the moment she turned around instead of giving Pamela time to get the door open.

3. She wastes another bullet shooting at nothing. Rather than pursue Pamela immediately, Joanna stands there and keeps firing. Who does this? Who honestly just keeps firing at nothing?

4. After (finally) giving chase, Joanna has Pamela in her line of sight and actually hits her in the back. Somewhat realistically, this doesn't kill Pamela who manages to get in the car and escape. Why didn't Joanna rush over and shoot her point blank? Pamela is unarmed and poses no threat to her, but she keeps her distance and just blindly keeps firing.

5. She, again, JUST STANDS THERE as the car putters off at maybe two miles per hour, and never makes any attempt to run after it. Of course, by this point, she's wasted a total of five shots so I dunno how many bullets she has left. The weirdest part is she looks totally unconcerned.

All brilliant points! This scene cracks me up every time I watch the movie. It's very clear that Jean Marsh had never handled a firearm in her life, and that the director didn't spend even five minutes while setting up the scene explaining how she should stand and what she should point at.

The whole scene would have been far sexier and more suspenseful if Joanna had been a bit more devious, for example urging Pamela to calm down and serving her a drink which might be poisoned, or even just slipping her a sleeping pill!
