Anyone else love the music? I really thought it underscored the action and intrigue of the film.

The music played on the Organ is a Bach Fugue;
I have the info on the piece somewhere and will dig it up;
Schifrin's score is possibly his best and very underrated;
If you can find it, the soundtrack cd is wonderful

I have to agree that the score is very good, perfectly matching the thrilling drama of the movie. The opening aerial shots over the mountain, just before the main title appears in scarlet, with the achingly beautiful violins playing the intro, is something else.
As for the organ music, the piece the young German paratrooper is playing before he meets the priest is actually a prelude (BWV 553-560) and is often found on any Bach compilation of preludes and/or fugues. Later, before the final assault on the church by the US Rangers, the same paratrooper plays what I think is a variation on the film's theme music.

While I do think the music is very good, I also felt that the balance of dialogue and the score was flawed. I found myself constantly adjusting the volume. The music was so loud that I would turn the volume down, but then I was not able to hear the dialogue clearly and would have to turn the volume back up. My remote definitely got a workout during this film.
