DVD..?

I enjoyed this flick and always wanted to see a sequel (*SPOILER BELOW*). I remember seeing this on the big screen... a reallly big screen... in fact I saw it in the same cinema that ran "GRIZZLY". Later, I caught "DOGS" on TV in the middle of the night and still enjoyed it... damn I love B-graders... or maybe this qualifies as a Z-grader!

SPOILER FOLLOWS

In any case... I would have loved to have seen "CATS" or "KITTENS" or whatever the hell they had in mind with that final shot!

This movie is available on DVD under the Portuguese title "Caes Assassinos." And much to my surprise, it features a full load of special features. That's extremely rarely the case with old movies that were box office bombs, as this was. You can probably order a copy of it online without any problem though you very well might have to pay a big chunk for overseas shipping.

If you want to hold out for an American release, be sure to check for the alternate title "Slaughter," under which this movie was released on VHS in the late '80s. Linda Gray, then a star on "Dallas," received second billing on the box of the video cassette. I get the impression she had only a supporting role in the movie so I guess she was giving higher billing because she was very popular at the time.

I've never seen this movie but it's one of the very first movies I ever sad advertised on TV. I was about five years old at the time. I've never forgotten the ad and recently decided to check up on the movie. It would be interesting to finally see it.

I've checked out the IMDB entries for many of its lead actors/actresses. I noticed that one, Debbie Davis, was killed in a motorcycle accident the year the movie was released and that it was her only movie. Very sad.

Good luck in your quest to find it! If you have any further questions/comments, feel free to e-mail me.

I just bought the DVD at
http://www.dvdlx.com/

What a disappointment. The colour is virtually missing, and the pic is dark. Grey hills, grey people. Disgreyceful. I wouldn't watch it. Until about 53 mins it comes back fully!! (I had a bizarre instinct to check later.)
I also can't remove the subtitles. Just like with the French 1976 King Kong (had deleted scenes).

The vid I have is fine, apart from the mistitled generic SLAUGHTER (yuk). In the DVD you can finally see the big white DOGS title then drip with blood. Lovely.
The TV spot and trailer have perfect colour, though the pic is a bit soft.

The making of is a bonus, made in 2003 I think.
I wonder what the aspect ratio was. The DVD is 4:3. But obviously not made for TV with a film trailer.

Just saw it on dvd release today July 26,2006 at netflix.

Yes. I happened to do another search on ebay 2 days before its release!
It seems 4:3 and I have a horror it's the same horrible dog-awful print as the foreign one. But that won't stop me buying it to see.

In reply to me, I just received the DVD.
At 3 cats - err bux - from ebay, can't go far wrong.
Glad to say the pic is fine, though not DVD quality, and the colour is good. Even has the same extras as the Portuguese.

Pity it's 4:3, but seems it is framed for about 1:85 matt so if so at least no pic is lost.
Poor Dogs is one of a handful of movies not given widescreenhi-def treatment.

Trinity just issued "Dogs" on DVD with a surprisingly solid fullscreen presentation. Moreover, the Trinity DVD even has a few nifty extras: a nice retrospective "making of" documentary, the theatrical trailer and a TV spot. I purchased my copy for a mere six bucks at a local Suncoast.

There was,in fact, going to be a sequel called "Cats" which had a poster similar to the original "Dogs" poster. But the box office failure of "Dogs" caused the filming of "Cats" to be canceled.

Ralph-"Yes?"
Betty-"SHOVE IT!"
Ralph-"Oh,you shove it too,Betty!"

I'm surprised DOGS was a b.o failure, but there you go.
