Are we supposed to care for Harlan?

He's one of the most arrogant, unlikeble main characters in film history. He's the kind of person you'd dread having a conversation with. I absolutely can't stand him.
I wish he'd die in this but I'll bet he lives.

I like the character. I don't find him arrogant, I just think he's very serious minded, and had a very old fashioned view on education, in sharp contrast to most of his colleagues. I think it was done that way to set up an atmosphere of him and Michael against the establishment.

The bad Cockney/Aussie hybrid accent made me dislike him from the start

No idea why he didn't use his own normal voice

Half Irish, Half German - hated by all. But at least I'm not Welsh 
