The Usual Oscar Thread

I apologise for being the one to start this cliched thread, but you know no board is complete without one. So which Oscars you think this movie deserved?

For me:

Best Picture
Best Director: Valerio Zurlini
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jean-Louis Bertucelli; André G. Brunelin; Valerio Zurlini
Best Original Score: Ennio Morricone
Best Cinematography: Luciano Tovoli (wasn't too surprised to learn he also handled the cinematography in that other visual masterpiece of landscapes and silences: Professione: Reporter)
Best Supporting Actor: Max Von Sydow
Best Supporting Actor: Giuliano Gemma

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Technically I don't think this was ever eligible for the Oscars - according to IMDb it has never had a US cinema release. But as this is a hypothetical game...

I'd give it nominations for

- Adapted Screenplay
- Art Direction (the fort is pretty-much a character in the film and the sense of isolation and claustrophobia is superbly sustained with enormous help from the production design).
- Sound
- Original Score

While the cast as a whole works together beautifully - what a collection of the leading European actors of the period! - I'm not sure I could single out a single actor for a nomination, at least partly because most of them are dubbed into Italian.
