Halloween Wannabe? (Spoilers)

Is it just me or was this a total Halloween wannabe? In fact, it seemed like it was two completely separate movies that were only connected by having the same killer. I'll admit that the movie was confusing (and poorly-lit) enough that I might have missed something, but I don't think so.

It seemed like the first movie was about a missing girl and a psychic guy trying to find her and the killer. And then out of nowhere, a second movie appeared about a Michael Myers like killer stalking a young blonde woman. And these two movies never really converged. It was like they were in the middle of making a movie about the psychic trying to find a killer, saw how successful Halloween was, and then changed course and started making a Halloween ripoff. They even went ahead and killed the psychic guy because he didn't fit with the new story (though admittedly, that was my favorite scene of the movie, even though I liked the psychic).

So what do you think? Did I miss some crucial story connector that showed how these two storylines were connected, or did they just decide halfway through to start copying Halloween?

FYI: I believe Halloween came out the year before this stinker.

I'd say it definately attempted to catch some of Halloween's success.

I'd like to see the film, however.

What you wrote about the link Halloween vs. The Demon makes total sense. When I saw The Demon I believed for some reason that it was a 1976 movie and I actually thought (especially in the second part of the movie) that it was an inspiration for Halloween!!! :-) I mentioned to myself "John Carpenter saw this movie before he did Halloween". Then I discover here on IMDB that The Demon came out in 1979, so Halloween has CERTAINLY an influence on it, especially during the finale.

About The Demon: I don't really see connections between the two storylines in the movie. Actually there is not much connection between anything in this movie, at my opinion. For example: somebody can explain to me why Mary is making a poncho with a shower curtain when a guy is about to kill her? I mean: I never been stalked/chased by somebody but I would certainly have other priorities if it happens.

I also had the same conflicting dates like frederic_dussault. The box from my DVD version of Demon also sais 1976. It is part of collection featuring 9 other horror movies such as Don’t Look in the Basement, Memorial Valley Massacre, Pieces and more. Even though it has been remastered, many scenes are still too dark to enjoy. Like another OP, I was baffled by the overuse of the crashing waves on the rocks… and the sudden close ups. The director may have thought it would be clever and effective to use the crashing of waves as transitions from one scene to another since they are loud and violent… but somehow, in this movie, it means nothing, falls flat and becomes annoying. I am in total agreement with all the OPs here. Shades of Micheal Myers creep in as I watched this film. It’s a shame we didn’t get learn much from the killer in this film. We see his apartment which seems simple enough with seaweed green as the theme. We see him doing push ups, then ripping magazine pages of female models. We see his shadow tearing clothing with his bare hands. Should we be shaking in fear at this point? Does all this indicate a psycho? A killer? He could be as harmless as a neighbor working on a paper mache sculpture?

yeah I totally agree with that statement,, there is definitely 2 different movies here, and how can you jump from one to the next I just don't get it,, and that's why I probably won't watch this again.
