A lot of fun if you appreciate the genre. Lovely Mari Honjo in her big screen debut (and finale). http://www.MariHonjo.com

Well, despite how terrible the movie is, it is interesting to me since my father was an extra in the movie (he trained at Ron Marchini's Karate school). I have seen the film since it first opened (when I was 9), but I seem to recall my father shooting from behind a car and then getting blown up. I would love to get a chance to see this horrible movie again just to see that scene once more.

reply

Haha, was that guy your dad?? It was a hilarious scene, one of my favorites in this movie! Until now he is the only sniper I've ever seen who smokes a pipe while assasinating someone! Why don't you add his name on the IMDb?

-This is my John Hancock?

reply

Check the great Lee Marvin movie "Point Blank," where James B. Sikking plays the pipe smoking assassin that inspired the character in this movie.

reply

Wow, really? :oO - that sounds so cool! A friend of mine just bought that movie, I have to borrow it from him!
Lee Marvin was a cool guy, and John Boorman is a great director!
(Better than anyone involved in 'Death Machines' anyway).

Secundus: I loooove children!

reply

Yeah, definitely my favorite scene. Assassin *smoking a pipe* while waiting his *orange* clothed victim to *come closer* even when he seems to have a clear shot with his rifle *with scope*. Then, *3 other* assassins park their car *couple of tens of meters* behind him, step outside the car, dig up a bazooka from the trunk, and blow the 1st guy without him noticing anything happening behind him.

Priceless.

god, that´s a fun movie (in a crappy b movie kinda way)

Hell, Ayaatwr...

What can one expect but the worst movie (or damn near) when it is shot in Stockton, California.

reply

The film is cliched, but there are some really good aspects, such as Mari Honjo's potent and intense performance, and the truly weird music.

The soundtrack is very original and a blast of fresh air even today, 20 years after it was made. It features classic analog synths including a Moog and a theremin, alternative musical scales, and a very strange and compelling central theme, all recorded on tape with dirty recording heads causing audible over-saturation and hiss. Super!

reply

Truly one of the quintessential bad-synths moments of film history, would be the closing moments (eternity, more like) of this film.

reply

Hehe.. well it's a stoner film, and a probably unintended classic at that. So bad it's really good.

reply

I'm glad that someone out there appreciates the film for what it is and enjoys it in the spirit of what it is. It may not be one of my favorite action films of all time. (It's no "First Blood.") But it is a decent martial arts picture. It might even creep into my top ten favorite martial arts pictures. It is well made and entertaining for an American martial arts film. By "well made" I mean "charming" in a B film kind of way. The B level cinematography, art direction, editing, and music all have their charms, to say nothing of the (sometimes quite entertaining) acting. I've actually corresponded via email with the director, Paul Kyriazi, and I've complemented him on this film. He has nothing to be ashamed of at all about having made "Death Machines." This picture possesses a kind of "charm" that the elephantine productions of the major studios cannot duplicate.

This is one of the best movies ever made, not the worst. The worst movie ever made was "Ninja Champion" by Godfrey Ho.

Truly they can, check out Night of Horror and The Brainsucker

reply

Agreed on Night of Horror. I can't find anything worse than that.

I think this film is a hilariously horrendous hoot and a half. I especially dug Don Hulette's wired'n'wonky zoned to the funky bone synthesizer score.
