This is another one of those great films made in the 1970's early 80's that had some real life edge to it. Films like Hardcore (1978) Lipstick, the Dirty Harry films.

They actually shot films outdoors, not in studio lots, had great storylines, drama, tension and thought provoking.

Eve Plum is great in this, and it shows, just like the Hemingway girls in Lipstick, that good actresses thrive in edgy films.

I sometimes think sex workers are unnecessarily vilified and pursued by the police in the United States? Is that correct? Here in Australia they are mainly left alone, except for street prostitution in 'built up' areas. Then that is more because like bees to honey, they may attract one or two undesirables.

The USA is such a mystery to me. Violence through allowing people to walk around with handguns, yet often deeply worried about sex, yet having the largest pornography industry in the world.

Entrapment policy -unnecessary persecution

I never will understand why they dress undercover police officers as prostitutes to trap men who might approach for paid sex. To me the USA is such an enigmatic place.

Truly the greatest nation on earth with its drive, energy , innovation, with many wonderful people, yet seemingly a lack of compassion for human fraility, especially by harsh prison sentences, seemingly poor provision of social services.

Why do so few have to have so much money? I guess money is one measure of reward for innovation, drive & energy. Where else could a 20 yo college drop out like Bill Gates become almost the wealthiest man on earth in less than 10-15 years? Just like the founders of Google.

Actually I think a few Russians became very wealthy in the 1990's when sold off state oil assets, and I am sure some very wealthy Chinese which shows that people do not really like socialist societies which takes away individual initiative & reward.

Truly a remarkable country. I have never been there. Perhaps I should.

I love Eve Plumb, and I loved TV movies then, but most have dated badly (every TV film of that time period seems to share the same cheesy composer !) and in fact most of them were just pilots.

Eve is good in this but they didn't have her looking as wild and sexy as they could of have. I love her tough girl line readings in the later part of the movie though, esp. when she fliply blows off her parole officer. (He says something sternly like "better take that fur coat with you. It's cold on the streets. She just blithely says: "that's ok, motel rooms are warm !")

Frankly, I think the subject was handled a tad better in Little Ladies Of The Night. And I think Born Innocent was in a class of its own.

I have LITTLE L:ADIES OF THE EVENING and BORN INNOCENT too! I love those flicks!

I was just in Laguna Beach, CA and my father, who lives out there, knows which house is Eve Plumb's. My husband and my fatehr always dare me to ring her doorbell but I dont have the nerve.

I absolutely loved this movie, though I haven't seen it in 30 years. I don't know if all those "Portrait" movies are available on DVD, but it would be a great package!

As I was thinking about Robert Reed making obscene phone calls, my mind naturally drifted to other Bradys gone astray and of course I remembered this NBC classic with Eve Plumb as a runaway who becomes a hooker. Eve Plumb tries very hard to erase her image as Jan Brady, but it's virtually impossible. There is a funny over the top turn by Bo Hopkins as her pimp and Leigh McCloskey made attractive eye candy as Dawn's would-be boyfriend, who would get his own movie later. It ain't MACBETH, but for pure kitsch value, it is definitely a curio piece. I hope it's on DVD. If it is, I'd bet half my paycheck Eve Plumb doesn't do any commentary.

I like what abethell-2 posted. I am American. The USA is hard to explain. It is diverse and full of contradictions. Like most places America is obsessed with sex. Many of our original setters were Puritans so we are still stuck with many of their ideas. Sometimes I think the USA is several countries in one. It is that big and that diverse. I live ten miles from New York City. I am sure my experiences vary greatly from people from other places.

I think a lot has changed since this TV movie was filmed. Times Square in New York used to be packed with prostitutes. The police cleaned up the area and turned it into a Disney tourist attraction. The police did not put the prostitutes out of business. They just moved to other areas. Prostitution is illegal in all 50 states. Brothels are legal in the state of Nevada but prostitution isn't. If it sounds hypocritical, it is.

I don't condone prostitution. But I think it should be legal for several reasons. Legalization would increase the health and safety of the prostitutes and their clients. A lot of people try to impose their opinions on others. I am not like that. I am more tolerant.

This movie caught my eye on youtube. I heard Eve Plumb declined to participate in "The Brady Bunch Hour" variety show because it conflicted with this. I don't usually like made for TV movies. I think TV movies about damsels in distress were popular in the '70s.

Something just occurred to me. When Eve Plumb returned to The Bunch in 1981 for "The Brady Girls Get Married / The Brady Brides" she looked very conservative, a total contrast from Dawn.
