I'm not sure...was there a scene in this where two college-age guys are sitting in a redneck cafe, and they play a tape recording of a bigfoot-style creature screaming, and it freaks all the locals out ?

I remember it was stated that the scream was an actual recorded scream of a creature. Whether that's true or not I don't know. The same thing was said about the scream in the Legend of Boggy Creek.

I rember watching this as kid in the early 80s on the old creature double feature.Its great and there is no Computer shir.This film sticks with you and you are generally afraid of the creature.

I remember going to see this at the theater, I was almost 9 years old at the time, and it scared the crap out of me, now watching a bargain bin dvd of it I found and bought just recently, I have to admit, it is a pretty darn good movie, low budget and all. Still gets your nerves a bit jumpy, lol!!!
