Wow, his owners were both idiots

Need I say why? But instead, everyone can't stop cooing at the circulated 'moving' footage on youtube. Yet many have no problem telling people they're evil for owning fennec foxes.

Yes, you need to say why.

Maybe you should look a little more into the background of the youtube video and get the full story before calling these men idiots.

"Yes, you need to say why."

Because they were walking down the street and brought some new shoes and a pet lion. 70's my foot. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know you can't keep big cats in an *apartment*.

I watched the documentary thank you very much.

he was born in a zoo, and he was then put up for sale in harrods in a cage with another lion. They bought him from harrods because they respected lion's and thought they were beautiful animals - they knew the apartment was only a short-term solution. They then loved him and cared for him while he was growing up, and made sure he was fed the right amounts, and as it got more costly to feed him they allowed a photographer to photograph him with chicks etc.. When he was growing up they realised they have to exercise him and found a churchyard that a priest let them have. It then dawned on them they only had a few options and they didnt want to put him in a zoo so they took him to a someone who specialized in reintroducing lions back into the wild. They came and checked on him every few years. This is a story of how these two men saved a lion from a cage in harrods and reintroduced him into the wild.. if you dont see that this is a story of love, not stupidity, you are in danger of being an idiot yourself!

...and i only watched the documentry

What an annoying reply. I'm sure they loved lions plenty that doesn't mean you go out, give money to the people who put him up for sale and buy him while shopping for shoes. You can follow a documentary programed to warm your heart and glorify that or you can realize just how wrong that is. The documentary won't tell you about the failed attempts of people who do the same thing and the animals end up miserable. The end does not justify the earlier action. If they bought and then found a sanctuary for him right away that would be not pathetic. I'm disturbed mostly by the purchasing a large dangerous exotic cat with an 'open-ended' solution on what to do.

so, would u have preferred them to leave the lions in their cages to be taken by anybody - they may have been taken by a lunatic who would want to use their destructive side...just like the other failed attempts? As a matter of fact, lions arent dangerous if they dont have their hunting response triggered.. they are loving animals who just kill to stay alive. Yes, they have the potential to be dangerous - but doesnt every human?

All wild animals require very special care and should be considered dangerous at that size. All lions will have a 'hunting response'. They aren't domesticated. The fact that he was re-introduced into the wild should tell you that. There are a ton of animals that probably have a grim fate at pet stores, that does not mean you should purchase them all -especially- if you are not equipped? At best, this story is shocking that it had a good ending since it seemed destined for failure. I don't see how the hell a wild animal goes running to his old owner. This story appears so fake-looking. And I thought it was impossible to release animals that were born in captivity. That's why people who run sanctuaries have to spend thousands of money to care for cats who can't be released, and the only ones that are released were prepped for survival since they were suckling. Did these facts about animals just cease to exist in the 60's or something?
