Was Sue Snell in on the joke?

I am confused. Is Sue Snell in on the joke to humiliate Carrie a the prom, as some think.

If so, how to explain that she was explaining to the gym teacher about the manipulation going on under the stage, or the dream she had, full of tears for Carrie.

If not in on the joke, why let her boyfriend be her date?

I have a feeling there is a missing scene which would clarify the question I have asked.

One final question: Was Carry the devil?

Thanks.

I never got the impression she was in on the joke. She wanted her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom because she felt bad for her and guilty about what she did to her. She wasn't in on the joke in the novel.

"Was Carry the devil?"

No, her mother was just nuts.

Thanks alot for replying. This answer helps.

Sue tried to stop it, but was thrown out. Why would she try to stop the humiliation of Carrie if she was in on it?

Thanks for the reply.

Would you agree that there wasn't a scene included in the film which would have made it clear to the viewers that

Sue's intention to Carrie (letting her have her boyfriend for the evening) were honourable?

reply

Sure, but for some reason Sue seemed like she was remorseful about what they did to Carrie in the shower and that having Tommy go to the prom with her would make things right. I guess people could be led to believe otherwise, but after Rita slaps Chris across the face, Sue goes up to Chris and tells her to give it up(meaning her hate). To me Sue seems to genuinely want to help Carrie assimilate and feel a part of things. She had empathy toward Carrie and it showed. At least that is how I see it.

As for Carrie being the devil I think that Margaret was more of a devil than Carrie, but that is my take. Margaret was kind of a false prophet and Carrie was there to beat the devil. Of course you can look at it completely opposite of what I just stated and it would be acceptable that Carrie was the devil and Margaret was the holy one. I mean Margaret's likeness is on the cross in Carrie's little room, so the interpretation can be that Carrie was the devil. I'd like to believe that Carrie wasn't the devil, but it is kind of more interesting if it were true that she were. I mean, that would indicate that Carrie(the devil) set it all up from the beginning.

No, only Chris, Billy, Norma, that guy who played Balford in First Blood and Norma’s date were in on it.
