Golden Globes 1977

Something that I noticed, that I thought was strange, was how Piper Laurie was nominated for Carrie at the Golden Globes in 1977, but Sissy Spacek wasn't. Yet, at the Oscars (Academy Awards) in the same year, they were both nominated in their respective categories.

I wonder why the Golden Globes ignored Sissy? Seems a bit strange.

Actually, yeah, that's a good point Bradster. It could of been because of that. As you say, Piper was well respected, even though she had disappeared for 15 years after The Hustler. It does make sense. Plus, back in 1977, I've also noticed they don't seem to have had "the most promising newcomer" nomination then which can still include people that have already been in some movies (eg: Nancy Allen got that in 1980 for Dressed To Kill). They only had actor/actress "debut" film role nomination instead, which wouldn't have fit Spacek. Plus, if it was as you say, just a sort of welcome back from her peers for Piper, then I guess Carrie itself, as a film, may not even have been on the radar hence the lack of recognition for Sissy.

Just seemed a bit odd to me that's all, that the Oscars, the most important awards ceremony for the industry, that follows the Globes, suddenly included her. Maybe it was realised by the Academy, that she had been inadvertently missed at the Globes lol! Some of the famous awards ceremonies, outside of the Oscars, do seem different now, in how they operate compared to way back when, so who knows, but thanks for your thoughts on this.
