Ivan Dixon (Lonnie)

Wow, Ivan Dixon really aged between when he did Hogan's Heroes in the late '60s and early '70s to when he was in Car Wash. It had been less than 10 years but he looked 25 years older in Car Wash than when he was in Hogan's Heroes. I'm wondering if they had the makeup people make him look older than he really was in Car Wash.

Well, like I was saying I'm wondering if Dixon really aged that much in just a few years or if the makeup artists on Car Wash wanted him looking older than he really was.

Ever seen the film version of Raisin in the Sun? The movie, released in 1961 and starring Sidney Poitier, featured Dixon, and it would stun you of how different he looked 15 years before Car Wash.

He was born in '31, so he would have been 45 when the movie was made. He put on a lot of weight and with some grey hair he could look older. I thought he did a terrific job as Lonnie, creating a character with some depth in just a few scenes.

He didn't look that much older, he just had a little grey in his beard and his character was so patriarchal it may have seemed like he was way older than when he did "Hogan's Heroes".
