Awful movie

This is one of the worst movies I have ever scene. I cannot comparing this to guts and slasher movies as never watch them. I sort of wish I hadn't seen Carwash. I thought Richard Prior and George Carlin could save this movie. They didn't come close at all. If anyting they contributed to its gawdawfulness. And I am surprised to see it got about a 5 rating. I gave it a one.

I know I'm a few years late to this discussion but you have to put movies like this in its proper context. This is the "I went to work and here's what my typical day is like" kind of movie, which is what episodic movies are. Every time I watch it, I see something different, even almost 40 years after its initial airing.

I would KILL to have Tracy Reed's legs...

One thing that that we all must consider is that our tastes differ. l've never taken a course on film or anything related to it so I cannot be objective. My subjective answer remains: bad.

A lot of you just dont get it. This film was deep on a lot of levels. Maybe you're all out of touch and just cant relate to making the best of working a manual labor job. It chronicled the day in the life of your average manual laborer. It was good. I felt so bad for the prostitute at the end of the film because it was a Friday, everyone was leaving for the weekend and everyone had a place to go or some sort of destination except for her. It was heartbreaking when Hippo rode off on his motorized bike and she stared at him and uttered under her breath, "Bye".

Yeah. Scenes like those are actually what makes this movie good. There are plenty of them and they all bear some kind of small significance. That scene where the boss's son what saying goodbye to the workers before leaving to go to school for the fall was one of them. There he was, a naive white teenager budding into an adult with an undoubtedly more privileged upbringing than them, but he felt a connection with them because to him, they were hip and represented rebellion --everything he wanted to be. Being around them made him feel special; like he belonged, although it was just another day at work to them. He was initially and almost completely ignored, but the fiance' guy consoled him by responding to him and at least showed him that his sentiment didn't fall on deaf ears.

Don't leave before the miracle happen...

Really why you think it's awful.Well I love the movie and it's better than a lot of movies that's out now and this was made before I was born. But hey you have the right to not like it but it's not an awful movie at all

reply

I will admit that many movies made today are pretty bad. There is an occasional exception. It has been so long since I have seen the movie, that I can't remember why I didn't like it.

reply

A little late in replying. I realize liking or hating a movie (or anything else) is purely subjective. Unfortunately, my recollection of the movie is that it is still awful. I'm not sure that I want to put out the cash to watch it again to see if my objective opinion has changed.

This movie is kool.

Car Wash is a great movie.

I guess opinions differ greatly. I fail to understand what was great about it, but not all people think alike. Cheers.

I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only one. I just watched an Unsung Hollywood episode, which featured this movie and since I've heard so much about it and knew that I could watch it free on HBO demand, I decided to watch. I went through the whole movie like . With all the talk and knowing that Richard Pryor and George Carlin was in the movie, I expected to erupt into laughter at some point but to my disappointment, it never happened. The most the film received from me was a few chuckles every now and then. If not for the fact that I was waiting to see something funny happen and alos the fact that I'm one of those people that if I start watching a movie, I have to see it through the end, I would have turned the movie off half way through and gone to sleep. I would say that The Wash with Dre and Snoop was much funnier, to me.

Thanks; I appreciate your comment.

I saw it at the theater when it came out. I remember very little, but that it stank and that the song (then a radio hit) was way overplayed.

I think you're trying to take it too seriously. the film is just a bit of fun, with some great music thrown in, and some great cameos (eg Richard Pryor and George Carlin), and some funny moments. there are some really good actors in this film, but it's not meant to be about the performances of a lifetime, it's just a day in a car wash.

relax and you might find you enjoy it.

reply

I think you might be right. At the time I wasn't able to enjoy except for the two videos. Thanks.
