quite agree, the review was for a different film (or so i thought) as a kid i loved every minute of it and as an adult, sitting watching it with my kids, i still enjoyed it, makes so much change to the "normal" hollywood guff that gets forced down the kiddie throats. it is a true classic and for those of you in the uk, a after they were famous show is on, reuniting all the old cast together

I would have thought that the reason that it appeals to children so much is quite simple. It's the kids who have got the main parts, who are being treated as important, with no adults around to cause trouble. This is one of the reasons that a lot of Enid Blyton's books were so monumentally popular as she followed the same theory.
Add to that, the actors are all very good, it is funny, a nice simple (but not simplistic) plot line and a cracking score, and as far as I'm concerned you have a superb musical film. I saw it first as a child and absolutely adored it. Particularly as I felt that it was making fun of the whole adult world and exposing it for the stupid place that it is (as I felt at the time). After all, don't most children think that adults are pretty odd creatures?
