I can understand why he didn't. They would not have been happy to see what he'd done. In their eyes, very likely they would have shouted at him that he had just thrown his life away (because there was not, and likely still isn't a cure for this disease). Look how overly protective his father was throughout the entire movie.
shareHe was in love with Gina and wanted to touch her ASAP (lol). Besides, his parents were still asleep and after his early morning excursion with Gina they could touch him all they wanted.
