Song The Two Girls Sang

Does anybody know the name of the song the two young girls sang in the migrant camp scene? It isn't listed in the IMDB soundtrack list.

Thanks

Once i was humming this when i was in my house. I had only heard it from the movie. surprisingly, my roommate said... that is the "columbus stockade blues" (he was from Columbas Georgia) he explained that there was (or is) a large prison there. This song was kind of popular there.

You're welcome :-) I didn't realize until after I posted that you already got your answer last year. Oops! BTW, I'm the one that gets up and runs around the bed when Ozark Bule (sp?) drives into the camp.

Yeah, I'm one of those girls. The song is Columbus Stockade. Here are the lyrics: http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/watson-doc/columbus-stockade-1493.html

You were in the movie? Wow, That was a great movie, very inspirational.

reply

Wow, impressive. Did you enjoy the experience?

Yeah, it was fun to get out of high school classes to be in a major feature. I enjoyed meeting some of the actors in the film. One time, we rode to the set with Randy Quaid. Another time, Ronny Cox worked with us in his trailer on harmonies. Very nice man. We didn't interact with David Carradine much between takes. He was quiet and enigmatic. He had a young daughter running around the location named Calista, I believe. She was a wild thing. It was also cool to be surrounded by such pros behind the camera, like Hal Ashby and Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler. Wexler's son Jeff did the sound. A little trivia: The microphone was right in the ground. There was no post production on our little tune. Also, you may already know this, but Bound for Glory was the first film to use the Steadicam. I still get paid for that little part. These days, it's usually about $28 a year after taxes.

Sue, real nice to see your post here and thanks for turning me on to "Columbus Stockade Blues". :-)) Since finding out what the song is, I've learned it and perform it with the band I play with here in Western Kentucky. This is one of two songs we do that were picked up from the background in a movie, the other being "Banks of The Ohio" from Paper Moon. Finally found "Bound For Glory" on DVD the other day so I'll look for you.

jacksonfelts, I realize my reply is coming years after yours and you may never see this, but I just had to jump in and say that "Banks of the Ohio" and "Columbus Stockade Blues" are two of my all-time favorite songs I learned from the movies. I was around when both of these movies were first released yet had no idea what these songs were and always wondered about them. In fact, I only just recently thought of looking again after so many years and found "Banks of the Ohio" online. Both songs have haunted me for years. I think it's so cool that your band did (and maybe still does) play them both.

I am only just seeing your post, all these years later, as I read these comments about "Bound For Glory". The scene that Sue refers to was one of the best scenes I recorded while working on the movie. Since we did all live recordings and there was nothing re-done in post, the beauty of that scene was totally the performance --- Sue, you did a wonderful job with the song, your voice, your presence on the screen was magical (and you were so careful not to hit the microphone which was the only pickup for your beautiful voice). Your post brings back so many memories and thank you so much for remembering me and my father, and of course, the late great Hal Ashby.

Incredibly cool and interesting. I jumped on this thread because that song was my favorite thing in the film (which I loved).

Y'all were terrific! Love those harmonies...

I've found the song I suppose. And it seems I've found the names of the singers. Now the lyrics, but what I just can't find is a copy of the song that you sung.

It was the prettiest sound.

That was you and it was this song when during the movie Arlo walks up and sort of starts up on a harmonica and then you girls stop and run off a ways because of a car is coming, and a lot of commotion?

Is that the song were talking about here? It was the sweetest sounding little duet.

The whole movie was full of good music though just to cover my bases if we're talking about another song.

Yep c-dugal, that's the song, "Columbus Stockade Blues". Wish they hadn't cut away when "Woody" came up and started playing the harp, would've been the most outstanding song of the film.

wasn't there a song in there with a line that goes: "Ther'll be pie in the sky when you die"?
