Was this movie made before Wonder Woman?

Did Lynda Carter star in this movie before she starred as Wonder Woman?

Hard to imagine why she would make this movie when she was in the popular and lucrative Wonder Woman.

Yes.

Wonder Woman began in 1975 and this was released in 1976. I remember when ads for this movie came out in the newspapers I wondered why her manager (her husband at the time IIRC) would put her in this after the whirlwind of good press and ratings for Wonder Woman which had been so successful on TV. It almost seemed beneath her status - to be the girlfriend in a 'Marjoe Gortner movie' AND take off her top. Maybe it was filmed before WW started airing but it was definitely released to theaters after Lynda Carter was known.

The first "Wonder Woman" episode aired on ABC on November 1975. "Bobbie Jo" was released in San Francisco on March 1976. Hypothetically, "Bobbie Jo" could have been filmed in the Spring of 1975 and the first episode of "Wonder Woman" in the summer of 1975.

If my hunch is correct, Lynda agreed to film "Bobbie Jo" before she got the part in "Wonder Woman." I don't think anybody knew at the time "Wonder Woman" was going to be a smash hit and put Lynda Carter on the map. Keep in mind Lynda was basically unheard of before the first "Wonder Woman" episode aired.

I think you are close on the Bobbie Jo dates. I have the commentary from the Blu-ray on now and the director is mentioning how they did very little to change most locations for the film and just filmed them "as is." During the quick draw at the gas station you can see a placard for a fiddling contest on October 17 & 18 1975.

There is a scene where Lyle plays pool during the day and the calendar behind Bobbie & Essie is July/August 1975. Ignore any calendar you see in the 'Cattlemen's bank' as they note that the building was not occupied and they made the set. My guess is that they filmed in late summer of 1975.

Edit: In the barber shop scene (just after they rob the Cattlemen's Bank) there is a poster for a fair that would have taken place August 21 - 24.

The wonder woman movie is tougher to pin down but they could have filmed it just after filming on Bobbie Jo wrapped up. Charlie's Angels was filming episodes within a month before air and it would have been possible. They also could have filmed WW before this movie and the network was figuring out if they should make Wonder Woman a series while Lynda made this movie.

Also the trivia for "Wonder Woman" indicates that Ms. Carter was down to her last few dollars when she got the role, so it's certainly easy enough to see how this movie fit into the "she was young and needed the money" scenario.

Also, CBS shot two pilots before deciding to pick up the series, so up until they aired, she had no commitment as far as "Wonder Woman" was concerned.

According to the DVD Merrie Lynn Ross interview, this film was made after the WW pilot was filmed. It had not been picked up yet. Merrie Lynn also had a part in the WW pilot and knew Lynda from an acting class.

In the DVD commentary of the Wonder Woman movie Lynda says that before she got the part of WW she had been in one movie. I always thought this was it, but I guess it was another movie. She never says the name of it, though.
