Region 1 release matted incorrectly

I have read on some reviews that the R1 release was improperly matted/cropped at 1:85 leaving the tops of peoples heads cutoff making the R2/R4 1:66 widescreen version the best release available of this cheesy classic.

In reviewing my old full frame VHS copy, I would have to agree that the R1 DVD does appear to be matted incorrectly. My VHS full screen looks more 'deliberately' framed than the R1 1:85 screenshots below - without question.

Anybody else have some input?
