The flying monsters appreciation thread
These flying monsters in the cave
shareNobody seems to appreciate the flying monsters.
shareThe exploding fire breathing frog is getting all the love.
shareActually, I'd love to see this book adapted to film again. The vast horizonless expanse of timeless Pellucidar can be done today, and we've seen from Jurassic Park on that dinosaurs and smilodon and all of the other prehistoric beasties (such as the flying thipdars and the flying, swimming, malevolently intelligent Mahars) can be given their due.
Granted, any accurate adaptation will be lacking in exploding fire-breathing frogs, but maybe something can be worked in. Perhaps a scene of archery practice could include shooting a frog-shaped target, with a cry of "bullseye!"
And those Mahars...

The subject comes up often enough.
Avatar was the inspired by these books and movies. So it is sort of a remake. Cameron sites these movies as his inspiration, his desire to make those fantasy/sci-fi stories come to life.
Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!
When those seemingly lethargic flying monsters suddenly went berserk (all that parrot-like screeching!) and flew down to grab the humans, I felt a bit creeped out. I think it's because they seemed so far and still, then suddenly all did this in a moment of frenzy, and we never saw those humans again. (Did they eat them?) Those green eyes and telepathy was creepy too.
Then they all went to sleep the next minute so our hero could sneak past!
