One of the possible inspirations to Die Hard, anyone think?

Same claustrophobic action-thriller of being trapped in a building where there are enemies wanting to kill the people inside.

Just imagine if John McClane took on the blood gang.

More than a possibility. This film was a major influence to a large portion of the action movies coming out of the 80's.

It's not so much the plot but the concept of stylized camera work and editing framing a stoic action hero gunning his way through closed quarters that has been highly influential on directors like George Miller, McTiernan, Cameron or Besson.

Carpenter is one of the most underrated filmmakers of all time.

Ever seen "High Noon" (1952)? Easily one of the greatest westerns of all time.

This film was sort of a remake.

No. Die Hard was a loose adaptation of a book called Nothing Lasts Forever, and it doesn't have the gritty, claustrophobic atmosphere of Assault on Precinct 13, being set in a tall skyscraper with plenty of running room instead of a small, two-floor building surrounded by blood-thirsty enemies. The only similarity is the premise of the protagonist(s) being outnumbered by overwhelming odds in an enclosed setting.

Stylistically, yes. It employs the location concept, setting up the geography of an enclosed environemnt and the characters occupying it then wind them up and let them go.

Funny you should say that because if you watch the elevator scene in Dark Star, Die Hard has a very similar scene but without the beach ball.

Assault on Precinct 13 and Die Hard both have amazing anamorphic photography and a slow moving camera which is why I love both films. Two of the greatest action films ever made in my opinion.
