Laurie Zimmer was bad

No wonder why Laurie Zimmer didn't have an acting career, it's simply because she can't act as it is evident in this film. It's the first time i watch such a bad performance, she had the same neutral expression in the entire movie. Great chick though.

She was going for "cooly self-assured"!

Hey, I don't know what sort of c___ they are teaching in film class, but even if Laura Zimmer's character was described in the script notes as "cooly self-assured," I'm with foo_jam2002 -- Ms. Zimmer was playing her role as "cruelly can't act."

Now, if you tell me that John Carpenter was having Ms. Zimmer deliberately play an actress who can't act, then I would change my mind in a heartbeat and say that she really nailed that part!

As a straight dramatic acting performance, she was often a half-beat off in character projection and either over or under in appropriate emotional state. It was just amateurish and bad.

Ya think that might have something to do with her having only a 4-film IMDB filmography?....

You guys don't know the first thing about underacting. You probably think Angelina Jolie is good.

And now you go on Ignore, troll cretin.

To be fair, this was a low-budget shocker. Carpenter didn't exactly have the money to hire Meryl Streep.

she couldnt act her way out of a snuff film.

I liked the way she acted. She just seem like indifferent to everything. It added to my enjoyment of the movie.

I absolutely loved her in this, even though the performance was flat. And the fact she was an amateur added to the grittiness of this. Leigh was a nice combination of dark, dry, tough, cool, and compassionate.

Me too, couldn't take my eyes off them. I fell in love with her the first time I saw her in that tight sweater...lol.

reply

She was terrific. She did exactly what Carpenter wanted her to do, be a tough as nails broad that, because of her hard life as evidenced in the little cracks that slip, never shows emotion. She was perfect for the part.

She was badass. And if you ever met a woman like that, you'd just be standing there like an idiot, mumbling some irrelevant bull*beep* 'cause you didn't know how to behave.

reply

She should have had an acting career!! She was unbelievably, overwhelmingly beautiful, luscious and sexy............AND THAT HAIR!!

She's like a ghost and that is one thing why this feels like a horror film. 💀

as I recall, her performance was effective. what's more, she was sexy. let's not kid ourselves. film acting is, like, ninety percent sexual presence. and zimmer had sexual presence. if she only appeared in four films, it's probably because she decided to get married and have children (like many film actresses with short careers). if you're a film actress, sometimes being a "great chick" is enough.

reply

Don't care if it wasn't good acting on her part. Her character was cool and tough and nails due to the way she depicted her. No one hated the performance more than the actress herself who decided to never act again despite John Carpenter disagreeing and saying how much he loved her in it.

reply

She did 3 films after this one. Delayed decision?

I loved her in this. Yes, the pointy sweater helps. Sometimes I love the 70s. But mostly it was her smoldering presence, which in turn mostly comes from the eyes. There was steel in those eyes, which only serves to invite imagination as to what lies behind that....
