Most vindictive US president?

Nixon in this film and by a lot of other accounts seemed like he was really hot-headed and vindictive. Does he take the cake in that category or is there any other president who surpassed him?

reply

Nope, he takes the cake. Perhaps the most paranoid president the US has ever had. And no wonder, considering his involvement in "that whole Bay of Pigs" thing. Frank Sturgis, one of the Watergate burglars, was heavily involved in all that anti-Castro shenanigans the CIA was up to at that time. And he may have been involved in the JFK assasination. Nixon talked about that with "Bay of Pigs" as a euphemism of the assasination itself. To me, that implies Nixon was involved somehow in all that.

reply

Maybe Lincoln. He started a war with a sovereign nation for no good reason. That's pretty hot-headed.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

reply

Surely you are joking. They were wrong to break away from the country and fired the first shots.

Nixon has problems and it did not help that he surrounded himself with vile people but he did some good. He allowed his darker side to overtake him.

You're absolutely correct about Lincoln. And speaking of Lincoln, his own Repub. party members who eulogized him in death, villified him in life. Hmmm?????? Also, some of the people who Lincoln came of age with, family, friends and neighbors, did not recognize the Lincoln that was eulogized. Hmmm?????? Makes one wonder what Lincoln truly was like.

The Confederate States were truly sovereign at the time of First Bull Run, S. Carolina at the time of Sumter. There was no statement in the Constitution that the Union was indissoluble. Constitution was silent on that. By the Tenth Amendment, that gov't power was retained by the States.

Aggression is not defined by who fired the first shots. It is defined by who acted in such a way as to require the use of force.

Well then the South loses on both counts.

I came the imdb thinking of posting the same question on one of the general boards, but see you posted it here. I came to the same conclusions as the posters both Nixon and Lincoln seemed to carry the label as not quite honorable. That times brought out the worst in them. I'm not historian, but Lincoln did seem to want to protect the country, at any cost. While, Nixon seemed to want to protect himself, at any cost. Both were undesirable to some people at large.

LBJ was close. Murderer. Assassin. Opportunist (as opposed to an idealogue).

Sounds a lot like Nixon.

OK this was posted seven years ago, but today's president, Donald Trump, surpasses him.

This thread is a perfect fit for this worthless movie. The height of leftwing ignorance and stupidity.

Yes we know, Nixon, Reagan, Trumfrd, North, Bush, McCain, Romney, Newt, McConnell, Dole...Hitler.

We know this because it’s what our dumbshit communist professors told us. So it must be true.

Go read a book and educate yourself. Watergate was a big nothing. Outdone 1000% by the Clinton War Room. Or Obama’s Irs Targeting conservative charities, selling guns to Mexican cartels, and giving 150 billion to our #1 enemy in the world, Iran.

But but Nixon! Who was re-elected with over 60% of the popular vote. Obviously the American people loved him. Strange how our communist education industry forgets to mention that. Wonder why? But but tape recordings! Ooooooo so evil.

reply

There is maybe one or two communist professors tops ... and I doubt even that. Communism is just not a thing. But what is a thing is the never-ending stream or bullshit and lies that comes from troll spam bots on the Right who have to fill up every available space with toxic garbage and lies.

Trump has long since surpassed Nixon.

reply

Most vindictive? Barack Obama. No question.

reply

No I think that honor goes to Trump who tried to overturn the election when he was not going to win re-election. Trump makes Nixon look like a mere amateur.

reply

Uh huh. You mean the Dems didn't literally try to overturn the election several times in 2016, even going to far as to create a phony Russian dossier to implicate Trump? And two indictments in the last several months prove the Dems made all this up for political reasons. Obama knew about it. Hillary knew about it. But they did nothing to stop it. Hillary was likely involved in the planning, though she will never fall on her sword. She lets her minions do that for her.
Let's not forget they impeached Trump over a phone call. OVER A PHONE CALL! LOL
And then they impeached him because he called for peaceful protesting!

reply

killing police is not peaceful. Destroying government property is not peaceful. Mike Pence would not have been in hiding if it was peaceful.

reply

Thank you! So you should be fully against the Dems! LOL

reply

My vice president never had to hide in fear in the US Capitol so I'm a Democrat.

reply

LOL Harris has done nothing but hide the last eight months.
