Does Anyone Else Agree That This is One of the Finest Films Ever Made

It is fourth on my list of favourites, certainly one of the finest films ever made, it is sheer artistic brilliance, and although there are a lot of scenes that many find very hard to stomach you have to be awe inspired by the cinematography, direction and acting. The set decoration is brilliant as well. I really can't find anyone else who shares this view though, so if you do please contribute. If you don't, why? Please NO TROLLS

Yes.

In Philadelphia it's worth fifty bucks.

reply

No. There are too many unnecessary scenes and too many silly songs that trivialize the communist cause. It is an overblown mess, but fascinating to watch nonetheless. A bloated exercise by a great filmmaker who peaked at "THE CONFORMIST" and knows it.

reply

I wouldn't say there are many unnecessary scenes, and no silly songs at all.

You spoke my mind! Many scenes could have taken out to make the script tighter with better flowing pace. I think the director was more interested in showing how great an artistic he thought he was than to better entertain the audience, LOL. I have seen many epic movies like "Lawrence of Arabia", "Gone with the wind", "Ben-Hur", etc., and this one is a few tiers down in quality.

Average at best.

watching it now for the 1st time. beautiful movie, i feel like i can reach out & experience what 1900 was like. if that makes sense. i'm watching the uncut version. i dedfinately need to watch it again, its a lot to take in with just one viewing. but its a really good movie so far, only 2 hrs left to go! lol

Well, that is very clever of you, since the earliest scene in the movie is 1901 (birth of the boys) and there are no scenes set in 1900 (or earlier).

A totally stupid title imposed by US distributors.

Definitely among the top hundred films ever made.

reply

Yes. Amazing film no one would ever have the stones to make today.

reply

Without a doubt this has been one of the worst films I've ever seen.

reply

Yes, one of my favorites. I've seen it probably over 10 times. I was only 18 yo when I saw it for the first time and I was lucky enough to see a completely uncut version (over 5 hours) in a movie theater. I was mesmerized.
