Jump the shark moment?

The episode where rerun shaves his head and joins the cult, season 2!!!!???
I Love the show and love thew charactors but that was when some of the plots went from semi possible to wtf?? The show is still one of my favorites

Are you kidding? I love that episode!

I dont think the show ever jumped the shark (unless we count WHATS HAPPENING NOW, which was a disappointing show).tghe fact the show only ran three seasons is probably what kept it from "jumping". I favor the ones that took place in Mamas house, but the ones in raj and Reruns apartment were pretty good too.

I don't think the show ever really jumped the shark, I think the shark just circled the pool and slowly died. Season 3 is NOT funny for the most part yet it is extremely memorable, the plots, the Earles, et cetera. But I agree that when Rog was still living under Mama's roof the show was a helluva lot funnier, and even though WHN!! was even less funny than season 3, I'm still glad they did it because at that point I just had love for all the characters and was happy to see them together again.

I would say season 3, when they moved out and the writers added these lame, superfluous characters and lame story lines. (Little Earl's repeated hitting on Dee and his horrible acting was particularly horrifying, in my opinion)

Why would a white cop and his young son be living in an apartment in Watts? A predominantly all Black inner city ghetto in the worst part of LA? Most LAPD cops commute to work from other parts of town. Not necessarily move to the ghetto because they work in the ghetto. That part of the show was so unrealistic and unbelievable.

Ironically, it was a moment in the episode that made references to the famous show that inspired the term. The characters were going through some dressing room of the stars theme place. They found garments from various other sitcoms, & there were daydream sequences of the characters acting out roles from them. The only one I recall is the "Happy Days" sequence where "raj" is Richard Cunnungham, Duane(I believe)was either Potsy or Ralph, & Rerun(!!!!!) was Fonzie.
I'm not sure what I'd think of it now, but raj did a whole string of "gosh golly jeepers, ect. which I at the time regarded as over the top, annoying & demeaning to the way Ron Howard played the character. I know I heard him say "Gosh Fonze" in the show, but it was barely noticible. Maybe if I saw it now, I might have a better sence of hyperbole.

Kyle: It's bigger than Cartman's @$$!
Eric: No it isn't you guys

When Mama left, the shark jumped.

Al - Alicia
An - Andrew
Jo - Joseph
Be - Benjamin

I heard that it is traditional for cops to live in the neighborhood where they work. But that might not be the norm in L.A. especially in tougher neighborhoods.

The show jumped the shark the day David Hollander walked on the set to play Little Earl. Little Earl was to "What's Happening!!" what Cousin Oliver was to "The Brady Bunch". Little Earl really wanted some brown sugar from Dee. She had about five years and fifty pounds on him.

The plots and stories got ridiculous in the third season but I still watch it because I love the chemistry between the cast. I think third season jump the shark, especially when they added Snake to the cast. He was unnecessary. It would have been better if they would have added Bryan O'Dell who played the pesty, annoying school newspaper writer Marvin. He was more interesting and charismatic then Snake.

reply

The JTS moment was when they added those damn Earls, big and little.

I'm straight...applaud me for my bravery!

The series didn't have enough seasons to have a JTS moment. If it wasn't for all those backstage politics with Fred Berry, maybe the show would have went on for a couple more seasons(with some room for improvement, just saw the ep with the ABC parodies and that was atrocious).

I would have rather seen Willie Tyler and his wooden sidekick Lester added to the cast than the lifeless Earles, that's saying just how sickening it was watching them trying to act and polluting the show with corny jokes. Little Earl's attraction to Dee was naseating to watch, as Dee wasn't exactly a prize herself in addition to her horrible attitude, and young Earl really needed a playmate his own age instead of hanging around grown black men. They fit in like a tuna sandwhich on an Easter Sunday dinner table.

This is possibly one of the funniest posts on a board I've seen here at IMDB.

It blew my mind when I saw Rerun with a shaved head. You almost never saw him without his beret. Shaved heads were not nearly as popular back in the day.

When Roger and Rerun got their own apartment. Then Mabel King left. Then it jumped the shark.
