Bill Bixby was so miscast in this
he was absolutely terrible as Willy.

I admire his performance because it showed Bill's acting range throughout the character's development (within a 10-year time-frame of his existence in the series' timeline), therefore it was fascinating to watch how the character's ups and downs were handled along the way. I certainly can't imagine any other actor portraying Willie Abbott.
